Nineteenth Century Inlaid Table Top

Known as India-Anglo export furniture, this ebony table with specimen wood inlays was made in the early nineteenth century.  Expansion and contraction of the substrate caused the top to deform, resulting in the loss of inlay.  Individual pieces of restoration inlay were produced to restore the top.  Additionally, narrow strips of aluminum were inserted, where necessary, to compensate for losses of original lead stringing.  The top was French-polished and waxed.
